Fat transfer is a procedure where fat is removed from a patient’s body and transferred to another place where fat isn’t as plentiful. Since fat is one of the body’s most plentiful (and renewable) resources of cushion material and adult stem cells, it makes perfect sense to augment the buttocks (Brazilian Buttlift), breasts, cheeks, lips and even the back of the hands.
Fat is a wonderful, natural cushion for parts of the body that need added volume, roundness, or plumping. Fat transfer involves liposculpting (by using liposuction) to remove fat from areas such as the hips, outer thighs, and abdomen.
Patients can reshape their body contours to look just the way they want because fat is able to be sculpted, much like a clay sculpture, by the fat transfer experts at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York. Then, the fat that was removed from the harvest areas can be injected into other areas of the body for cosmetic enhancement.
Good candidates for Fat Transfer are patients who have enough body fat in the areas that are being harvested from. If a patient is looking for a Brazilian Buttlift, for example, yet they do not have enough fat in their abdomen, hips or thighs to augment the buttocks, we suggest you have buttock implants instead.
The same holds true for patients who are looking for a stem cell breast augmentation, also referred to as a “natural breast lift”, “natural breast augmentation”, or “stem cell breast augmentation” Patients who do not have enough body fat can always opt for breast implants made of silicone or saline.
Fat Transfer Los Angeles can be performed under general anesthetic or local anesthetic.
Fat Transfer can take from one to four hours to complete.
You will be examined by a physician and undergo blood work testing to ensure that you are medically fit for surgery. You should stop taking aspirin, or any anti-flammitory drugs and stop smoking well before your procedure.
You will be given a prescription to antibiotics and painkillers, which you should fill before your surgery so that you have them easily available on day of surgery and your driver and/or caregiver is not running around to drugstores on the day of your surgery.
A friend or family member must bring you to the Beverly Hills Institute of Plastic Surgery. Our Patient Care Coordinator will greet you and bring in into the an examining room, where your Plastic Surgeon will mark outlines on the parts of your body that will indicate where the treatment will be administered.
Photos will be taken of the treatment areas, so that you will be able to compare the results to another set of photos that will be taken after you have fully recovered from the surgery.
Since the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery are critical for optimal recovery, The Beverly Hills Institute of Plastic Surgery suggests that patients consider recovering at Serenity Aftercare. Serenity is located in Santa Monica and is staffed by medical professionals that are specially trained in caring for patients immediately recovering from plastic surgery. If you do not elect to recover at Serenity, a friend or family member must come to the Beverly Hills Institute of Plastic Surgery to pick you up after your surgery and bring you safely home. Someone must remain home with you for the first 48 to 72 hours, to assist you as you recover from your surgery. If you elect to recover at Serenity, you will be chauffeured directly to Serenity immediately following your surgery.
Following the surgery, you will be placed in a support/pressure garment that will help to reduce inflammation and bruising.
Your surgeon will call you once you are safely at Serenity or home, to see how you are doing and to make sure you are recovering normally.
The incisions will take up to 4 weeks to close. Swimming needs to be avoided until the incisions have completely healed. Patients are welcome to shower 48 hours after the surgery.
Like all surgery, they are always risks. Typical Fat Transfer risks include: bruising, numbness, infections, contour irregularities.
Once you are deemed a good candidate for Fat Transfer, your Plastic Surgeon will discuss the risks in detail with you during your initial consultation.
Costs are based on the unique needs of the patient. In general, the costs are calculated based on the number of areas being treated. Your Patient Care Coordinator will discuss the cost of your Fat Transfer Los Angeles and the payment options available to you.
