Over 400,000 Liposuction procedures are done in the United States each year. Liposuction, is also known as “lipo-sculpture” or “lipo.” Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure which breaks up and “sucks” the fat our of various parts of the body. The fat is broken up and removed using a long, hollow instrument, known as a “cannula.” The cannula is inserted under the skin and guided by the Plastic Surgeon to the problem area. The cannula is attached to a powerful, high-pressure vacuum that pulls the fat out of the body.
The Beverly Hills Institute of Plastic Surgery is known among Hollywood’s elite as the “Liposuction Experts”. We’ve performed over 1000 Liposuction procedures and take great pride in having helped to rid patients permanently of their “problem areas”. The reality is that some patients are genetically predisposed to having fat deposits in certain body areas. Many of our patients report that no matter how much dieting and exercise they did, they could not rid themselves of these fat deposits. Thankfully Liposuction can permanently remove these unwanted fat deposits, allowing patients to finally feel good in their clothes and more comfortable at the beach.
Liposuction can be used to remove fat in any area of the body. The most common “problem areas” include the thighs (“saddle-bag), abdomen , flanks (“love-handles”), buttocks, lower back, upper arms, calves, chest, inner knees, hips, neck and chin.
Anyone who is troubled by a deposit of fat that they are unable to rid themselves of, is a Liposuction candidate. All plastic surgery patients must be deemed medically fit for surgery by the plastic surgeon who will be performing your procedure. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity and cannot remove cellulite, dimples on the skin, or stretch marks. The procedure is used to treat problem fat deposits and enhance the contour and shape of the body. The best Los Angeles liposuction candidates are patients who have good skin elasticity, causing the skin tighten smoothly to the new contour of the body.
The amount of fat that can be removed depends on the patient and the problem area. However, generally Liposuction can remove up to 5 pounds of actual fat.
Los Angeles liposuction is normally performed under general anaesthetic, although some patients elect to have the procedure done under local anaesthetic.
Liposuction can take from one to four hours to complete.
You will be examined by a physician and undergo blood work testing to ensure that you are medically fit for surgery. You should stop taking aspirin , or any anti-flammitory drugs.
You will be given a prescription to antibiotics and painkillers, which you should fill before your surgery so that you have them easily available on day of surgery and your driver and/or caregiver is not running around to drugstores on the day of your surgery.
A friend or family member must bring you to the Beverly Hills Institute of Plastic Surgery. Our Patient Care Coordinator will greet you and bring in into the an examining room, where your Plastic Surgeon will mark outlines on the parts of your body that will indicate where the treatment will be administered.
Photos will be taken of the treatment areas, so that you will be able to compare the results to another set of photos that will be taken after you have fully recovered from the surgery.
Following the surgery, you will be placed in a support/pressure garment that will help to reduce inflammation and bruising.
Since the first 24 – 48 hours after surgery is critical to optimal recovery, we suggest that patients consider being chauffeured to and recovering at Serenity After Care. Serenity is staffed by medical professionals that are specially trained in caring for patients immediately recovering from plastic surgery. If you do not elect to recover at Serenity, a friend or family member must come to our facility to pick you up after your surgery and bring you safely home. Someone must remain home with you for the first 48 – 72 hours, to assist you as you recover from your surgery.
Your incisions will be left open to drain and heal. A large amount of fluid will leak from the incision location. This will require regular changing of sterile absorption pads.
Your surgeon will call you once you are safely at Serenity After Care, or home, to see how you are doing and to make sure you are recovering normally.
The incisions will take up to 4 weeks to close. Swimming needs to be avoided until the incisions have completely healed. Patients are welcome to shower 48 hours after the surgery.
You will be scheduled to visit your surgeon between one to two weeks after your surgery, to ensure that your recovery is going smoothly.
Like all surgery, they are always risks. Typical Liposuction risks include: bruising, numbness, infections, contour irregularities. Once you are deemed a good candidate for Liposuction, your Plastic Surgeon will discuss the risks in detail with you during your initial consultation.
